In August we hired from Sixt at Barcelona airport. The car was excellent (1 Series Convertible) and the price very competitive. The staff were also generally helpful and pleasant. Many thanks for all of this. There were however a few negatives, which by posting here I might help others with:
1. The office is some distance from the terminal. There was a crowd of us waiting for c. 20 minutes for the minibus pick-up and we spent most of that time wondering if we were in the right place as there was no indication that we were! There were numbered bus stops – it might have been helpful to indicate a specific one in the instructions. Eventually we resorted to an (expensive) call to the office to confirm we were in the right place.
2. We have a very difficult time returning the car, as the office is on a one-way system on an industrial estate. The maps provided are schematics, rather than anything that can help with actual navigation. would suggest that people leave a generous amount of time for drop-off and to practice the approach to the depot when they pick the car up – seriously! In the longer term, some scheme to allow a drop off at the terminal (ring ahead and arrange to meet a member of staff there?) would be worth thinking about!
3. Minor niggle – and not Sixt’s fault really. The BMW 1-series fuel tank didn’t take well to being filled to the top. I stopped at the garage close to the airport and pumped in petrol until the pump would fill no more. After paying and getting back into the car, it was only 80% full and I ended paying the expensive rates for the other 20%. Anyone hiring a BMW 1-Series – beware of this issue.
Thanks!

Bill,
Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments and for highlighting these issues to us.
We pride ourselves on providing exemplary service to all our customers and are disheartened that your experience was not up to our usual standard.
I have passed your comments on to our Customer Service team to investigate all of the points raised to try ensure that this experience is not replicated for future rentals.

Hi, We are a family of 5 arriving in Barcelona via Ryanair form Dublin at 0.45hrs on 24th Sept. Do we still have to queue for a bus at that hour to collect our car – we really need to move quickly?
Regards
Dermot

Good morning Dermot,
I’ve had a check with our reservations team about your query and they’ve given our Barcelona branch a ring to make sure we provide you with the correct information.
If you are landing between 00.00 and 07.00 at Barcelona airport our shuttle service runs on demand. You will need to use one of the phones provided in the terminals and our staff will come and pick you up immediately.
Please contact me on this blog or at my e-mail address, andrew.aspden@sixt.com, if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Andy
