Regine Sixt Children’s Aid Foundation Christmas Concert

If you’re in Berlin next week then why not take advantage of a one off opportunity to see a fantastic charity concert held at Berlin Cathedral on the 29th of November in aid of the Regine Sixt Children’s Aid Foundation.

The concert will feature a unique line-up including performances from Francisco Araiza, Anna Maria Kaufmann, Daniel Lewis Williams, The Nelson Mandela Children’s Choir and many more. All of the proceeds from the concert will go towards the “Drying Little Tears’” projects currently taking place in South Africa.

The charity was set up by Mrs Regine Sixt to help seriously ill children who lack medical and emotional care. The Children’s Aid Foundation has made it its business to give these children a better life, by attending the concert you will not only get the chance to see great performance in a breathtaking venue but also help the charity to realise its dream!

Sixt Lithuania as official carrier for UNICEF mission

On 23-24 November UNICEF ambassador Her Excellency Alexandra Christina, Countess of Frederiksborg visits Lithuania with the noble mission to launch new UNICEF project for Cambodia. SIXT was invited to become an event sponsor and will provide all the carrier services for Her Excellency’s visit in Lithuania.

Sixt Country manager in Lithuania Algimantas Andrašiūnas says: “It’s an honor and privilege to be a part of UNICEF work. When asked to become partners in arranging Her Excellency’s visit we agreed right away. SIXT will be proud to provide highest level carrier services, appropriate for the occasion”.

In Lithuania Her Excellency Alexandra Christina arrives to launch Lithuania’s, Denmark’s and Norway’s UNICEF project to stop child and maternal mortality in Cambodia. Despite achieved progress, children under 5 years of age and maternal mortality rates in Cambodia remain among the highest in the region. Every day 100 children die from easily preventable diseases such as diarrhea and pneumonia and the maternal death rate is 461 out of 100,000. This results in 40,000 deaths every year and negatively affects families, communities and especially children whose mothers die in childbirth.

After becoming the patron of UNICEF Denmark, Her Excellency Alexandra Christina regularly participates in various philanthropic activities. By helping to spread the word about the world’s most vulnerable poor children’s lives and problems, together with UNICEF, she calls to unite together and create a better world for children, fight for their rights and collect funds for children’s global projects.

Breast Cancer Awareness Day

We’re always keen to help out a good cause at Sixt and as today was national Breast Cancer Campaign day we held a few fund raising activities and managed to raise over £420 for a very worthy cause. Some members of our team walked around Chesterfield in fancy dress during their lunch break collecting donations from members of the public, whilst back in the Sixt office several of us raised sponsorship by having various body parts waxed! Plenty of cakes, made by staff, were sold, raffled and eaten and the day proved to be a great success.

London to Cardiff Challenge 2010

Four intrepid ladies, one huge challenge!

The countdown has begun for Alexis Haycock-Hadden, Elizabeth Pencavel, Lily Howson and Joanne Lea as they prepare for the challenge of 7 marathons in 7 days. Setting off from London on the 9th of October the self-confessed “running amateurs” will be aiming to reach Cardiff by the 15th all for the charity Sport Relief.

Understandably with such a huge task to take on board the ladies need support for their endeavours, mainly through donations on their sponsorship page but also with help with the challenge. Sixt are providing a support vehicle to help carry the amount of equipment that is needed to take on such an epic task, alongside other companies who are donating their time and services to help.

The money raised goes towards Sport Relief which was set up by Comic Relief to help disadvantaged people, both at home in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries, to turn their lives around. The sponsorship money might be spent helping kids in Africa get into primary school or supporting an isolated older person in the UK to meet other people so they feel less lonely. But one thing’s for sure – the money raised will help to make the world of difference to people’s lives.

Hilton Golf Day 2010

Sixt recently entered a team into the annual Hilton Golf tournament. Our team for 2010 was made up on Greg Hulbert and Gareth Roberts of Quantum Building Ltd with Vasantha Ratnayake and Maxine Ruff from Sixt.

The event was organised in aid of a number of Hilton charities including the Regine Sixt Children’s Aid Association.

Sixt Hilton Annual Golf Day

On Friday 19th June, Sixt rent a car UK teamed up with Heathrow Hilton to raise money for Hilton in the Community Foundation and Regine Sixt Children’s Aid through what has become an annual golf event held each year. Sixt Team Captains were Ian Lawrence and Mark Blakesley with colleague Stephen Marshall from Head office also taking part with Manufacturer and Customer Partners completing the make-up of both sides.

Bob Baillie, Raj Uddin, James Wilson and Marie Roberts were also on hand behind the scenes to market Sixt to all the companies taking part in what was a very enjoyable and successful day with hopefully £2000 being raised for our charity. Check out our photos from the event…

Sixt rent a car Team 10 Kilometre Run

…In aid of the Regine Sixt Children’s Aid Association and Helen’s Trust

On Sunday 31st May eight of the Sixt UK Head Office Team became “Golden Gaters” in the second annual Chatsworth Golden Gate 10 Km run.

The Duke of Devonshire Starts the Race

The Sixt Team acquitted themselves well as temperatures soared into the 80’s on the hottest day of the year so far.

His Grace the Duke of Devonshire started the race just after 10:00 and the eight intrepid Sixt athletes set off in searing heat in a field of 900 runners, twenty head of cattle and fifty sheep up the hill towards Dobbs Edge, the Emperor Lakes and the famous Chatsworth Hunting Tower.

They climbed 150 metres in the first 2 Kilometres of the run, a very steep climb over those last 200 metres with a welcome decent over the last 2 Kilometres into the deer park and back to those Golden Gates.

The Sixt Team was made up of Richard Cusworth of Partner Relations, Wai-Yan Fung the Finance Director, David Jackson of Online Marketing, Mark Jones of Central Reservations, Ian Lawrence the Managing Director, Erica Read of Credit Control, Karen Robson of Accident Claims Unit and Adam Wilkes of Central Reservations.
Leading from the front (as ever!) the Sixt Managing Director, Ian Lawrence, crossed the finish line first of the Sixt entrants, rapidly followed by Richard Cusworth.

The first lady home was Erica Read with her fiancée Mark Jones just behind. (It will always be that way Mark!!)

The team were cheered on by Amy Clarke of ACU, Lee Cousins and Cameron Harvey of CRU, Michelle Needham of Accounts and her parents David and Christine (and their dog Ellie), Erica’s dad Arthur and brother James, and Mark’s mum Sue and brother Sean, Dave Jackson’s parents Neil and Wendy and sister Anna, Karen’s fiancée James and their friends Natalie, Andrew, Kirsty, Dale, Cheryl and Chris and Lynne and Andy Miles.

Dave Jackson was the next runner home and Wai-Yan Fung and Karen Robson then crossed the finish line together, with Adam Wilkes playing sweeper and ensuring they were all back safely came in just behind.

After the race Ian Lawrence commented

……a beautiful morning in a beautiful location. Congratulations to everyone on finishing!

and he added comments from some seasoned runners about this year’s event: -

“I read the reviews from last year about the first 3km and the hill and I thought “right, ok it’s gonna be tough” but I didn’t quite imagine how tough. That first 3-4km is the toughest I have come across so far in my 10k experiences”

“Wow so many hills and one very steep – after this run everything else is down hill”.

“Great run just be prepared for the hill climb after about 1 mile it is very, very steep”

“Fabulous scenery, tough race! – one of the toughest 10k’s on the calendar”

“I’ve been visiting Chatsworth for many years but never realised how large the hill was behind the house! The first 5K was pretty much all uphill with two particularly brutal parts to the climb”

So all in all – well done everyone a brilliant performance and thanks again to our colleagues, friends and families for cheering us on and taking the photographs – we really appreciated (and needed) it!

On the 16th of May 2009 Alison Honeycut and Lisbeth-Faye Strutt from the sales support office at Sixt UK head office will be taking part in a Race For Life 5k sponsored walk / run in the Peak District to raise money to support of the incredibly valuable work done by the charity Cancer Research

I am sure everyone will join in congratulating them in their fundraising efforts and wish them all the best for the day of the event.

Sixt rent a car Golden Gate Charity Run

On Sunday 31 May 2009, eight un-athletic, unfit, self-proclaimed couch potatoes from Sixt rent a car’s UK Head Office, will attempt to finish the Chatsworth estate’s ‘Golden Gate’ 10km race.

The Sixt team have all been in training now for a few months and are all convinced they can complete the run in under 2 days. Speed, competitiveness and athletic prowess are not expressions that have been associated with us.

Team Sixt:

Richard Cusworth – Over trained and out in front
Wai-Yan Fung – Under weight and over paid
Erica Read – Under age and over confident
Dave Jackson – Over weight and under trained
Mark Jones – Out in front and in the zone
Karen Robson – Under trained and out of breath
Adam Wilkes – Under confident and in some pain
Ian Lawrence – Over-weight, over the hill and out of his mind.

So why are we doing it? There are 2 charities that we are raising funds for, Helen’s Trust and The Regine Sixt Children’s Aid Association.

Helen’s Trust is a local charity who help people with an incurable illness stay in their own home, providing for example: nursing care, sitters, help to run the house, equipment care for others or complementary therapy. Additional information can be found at www.helenstrust.org.uk.

The Regine Sixt Children’s Aid Association was founded in 2000. It supports various projects for cancer-suffering children, children`s hospitals and seriously ill children throughout the world. Our team wants to play it’s part in raising money to help these children meet their challenges.

We know times are hard and we are all watching the pennies, but if you could help by sponsoring our team to finish with any amount, no matter how small, it would be really appreciated.
