Sixt announces new branch at Orlando International Airport, Florida

4 January 2012: Sixt, Europe’s leading family-run car rental provider, has announced that it is to open a new branch at Orlando International Airport, in Orange County, Florida (USA) on 16th January 2012.

The new location, which is situated in close proximity to the major transport hub, will also offer a free 24 hour shuttle to and from the two airport terminal sites to assist customers in reaching the conveniently located branch with ease.

The new regional outlet will be Sixt’s fourth location in the United States, supplementing branches at Miami International Airport, Fort Lauderdale Airport and Fort Lauderdale. The branch’s fleet will feature a range of vehicles, including economic sedans, convertibles, people carriers, American muscle cars and premium vehicles from high-end brands such as Mercedes Benz.

Sixt offers affordable alternatives for drivers and businesses feeling the pinch of London Low Emission Zone charges

Following the announcement earlier this year of the impending change to the new Low Emission Zone standards, Sixt has responded with measures to assist those affected.

The new regulations, which will take effect in central London from Today, will mean that all lorries over 3.5 tonnes and minibuses/coaches with more than eight passenger seats and with a gross vehicle weight over 5 tonnes will need to meet Euro IV emission standards for particulate matter. This ruling will be in effect on the majority of roads in Greater London, including M1 and M4 motorways and the roads within Heathrow Airport.

All vehicles that fall into the new category, such as Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs), commercial 4x4s and minibuses, will face a daily charge of £100 with a £500 penalty for failure to pay the charge. In addition, larger vehicles such as trucks and HGVs will have to meet the Euro IV standards in order to avoid a £200 daily charge with the penalty for these larger vehicles peaking at £1,000.

With such high charges being introduced, it is likely that a number of vehicle owners will be affected and many of the UK’s smaller business‘ requiring entry to the capital may even have to cutdown or cease trips into Greater London. For those drivers travelling into London on an occassional basis or even those looking to expand their fleet in a cost-effective manner, chosing car rental or leasing in place of an owned vehicle from a provider such as Sixt really can offer a flexible, reliable and low cost alternative to incurring the newly introduced LLEZ fees.

All LCVs supplied by Sixt are low emission vehicles and can be hired from as little as £25 per day for a VW Caddy and £29 per day for a Ford Transit, meaning a minimum daily potential saving of £71. In addition to their other branches in London, Sixt’s regional locations at Wembley, Walthamstow, Bromley, Bishop’s Stortford and Heathrow have already been briefed and prepared to cope with the higher demand that they are expecting in the New Year.

Paul McLoughlin, Managing Director of Sixt UK, said, “For drivers and business owners with vehicles that fall foul of these new regulations, this move could have a huge impact if they require entry to the capital. From minimal use right up to daily use, this additional cost has the potential to put some of the UK’s smaller businesses out of work unless a viable alternative can be found.”

Transport for London (TfL) estimates that the operators of some 75,000 HGVs, buses and coaches and 72,000 LCVs and minibuses could be affected by the new standards

The new Mercedes M-Class gets top marks in European safety tests

While it if difficult to form any surprise from a manufacturer with the caliber of Mercedes, the new M-Class has been rates 5 star NCAP tests.

When you look at the results under the microscope, we see that the score for adult occupant protection is 96% while the big Benz SUV has recieved the maximum score for severe side impacts with poles, as well as collision with maximum security fences. The protection of all parts of the bofy is good, except for the chest, which is considered adequate. Protection of the knees and femurs in case of a frontal impact was also assessed as good.

The protection of children (which always is an upmost importance to parents is rated as good). Although it is not recommended for a child or baby to sit in the front seat, especially because the only way to disable the front airbags is to use the system compatible Mercedes‘ CPOD. Without this system, the front airbags are still active, which can result in serious injuries to babies sitting in a chair in the opposite direction of travel.

Sixt supports International Motor Show with exclusive services

Sixt will be supplying services to the reception held by Matthias Wissmann, president of the German automative industry association. Sixt will be an exclusive partner to BMW. The Sixt stall will be located in hall 11.0, south foyer, stall D1 from 15 to 25 September 2011

Sixt will be helping present the new BMW 1er, which will be making its world debut at the IAA, Sixt will also be showcasing the further development of the BMW Connected Drive service with the intelligent congestion predictor RTTI (Real Time Traffic Information).

Sixt und BMW will be offering special discounts for their customers: Trade fair visitors can collect a voucher card from BMW and have it personalised at the Sixt stall. The card will entitle them to a 10 per cent discount on their next rental as well as bonus miles and points from Lufthansa and Hilton.
