Former Wrestler: Tony Edwards

Former Wrestler: Tony Edwards

A 69 year old former professional wrestler fought back after being attacked in a Nottinghamshire town last week.

Tony Edwards was making his way home after a quick call at his local supermarket in Newark when two men approached him and began to attack and go through his pockets. However the muggers got more than they bargained for when the former wrestler rolled back the years and began to swing his carrier bag which contained two cans of soup, hitting one of the men on the head.

The reaction from Edwards must have come as a great surprise to the two attackers who subsequently ran off leaving him with bruising to his side and abdomen.

Speaking to the BBC yesterday Edwards said “My head sort of went back 40 years and I thought, ‘I know what’s going to happen here’. But the attacker didn’t. He did when the soup landed and it must’ve rattled him and shook him.”

Edwards had worked as an all-in wrestler for eight years and also drew on experience from his time as an amateur rugby player.
