Snow Chains: Not Just for Cars
With the UK still gripped by the wintry conditions there are many people looking into getting snow chains or even “snow socks” for their tyres to aid in getting enough traction to get their cars going. But an enterprising company in Germany knows that we need grip once we’ve got to our destination.
With grit supplies diminishing and only being used on roads, pedestrians are very much forgotten and have to brave the treacherous conditions generally without the correct footwear. However thanks to German chain company Rud (who specialise in the manufacture of chains for all purposes), pedestrians can now slip on a set of shoe chains and walk around the current winter wonderland with relative impunity.
The chains are available in a variety of styles and sizes and can be ordered in the UK from www.autow.co.uk.

What a brilliant idea, I didn’t know snow chains were available for anything other than vehicles. I struggled so much on Wednesday trying to make it up the very slippy road to work after giving up trying to make it in my car, these would have been ideal. Instead, I had to pull myself up using a fence only to realise that the fencing ran out and I had to make the last few meters on my own – which I didn’t. I proceeded to slide sideways, in a Bridget Jones kind of fashion, back down to where I had come from until a very kind gentleman came and helped me. I was wearing boots, but in the icy conditions, these really weren’t sufficient.
