Earlier this week Dubai celebrated the opening of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa (formerly the Burj Dubai). The opening ceremony took place this weekend with a spectacular firework and laser display lighting up the whole 828m tall structure for all the world to see. Designed by Adrian Smith in conjuction with several other companies the building has been constructed in under 6 years and will soon be open for residents and tourists alike to move in and test their luxurious surroundings and facilities.

The structure set new records upon opening shifting Taipei 101 from the top of the tallest building charts and also becoming the the worlds largest free standing structure. It contains the world’s highest Mosque (on the 158th floor), the world’s highest swimming pool and (you may be spotting a pattern here) the world’s highest outdoor observation deck.

We have also tracked down a video showing off the view from the absolute top of the building on youtube. The film was apparently taken by part of the crew employed to clean the structure’s windows, which is certainly a job those with vertigo would not be able to stomach.

The building is set to open it’s doors to residents in February and is only one part of the 2 km2 Downtown Burj Khalifa development.

Sixt have also been celebrating in Dubai after being voted ‘Best Car Rental Agency‘ at the recent Travel + Leisure awards. At the presentation ceremony one of our locally run branches attended and was there to pick up the award. Malcolm Cooper, from Sixt U.A.E, commented “The professional nature of the jury makes this distinction the best endorsement that can be received within the travel industry. The trust that the travel industry and our customers place in Sixt inspires us to continue enhancing our products and to continuously strive to maintain the highest level of service quality throughout the world”.
