Sixt Launch Electric Car Hire in London

The Citroen C1 Ev'ie: A zero emission car to hire in London with Sixt
Imagine driving through London, without having to pay the congestion charge or almost £4 per hour that some car parks can charge and spending less than £1 on fuelling the car for the day? A lot of people would just look at this as pure fantasy, but environmentally aware Londoners are taking to the streets in electric cars and feeling the benefits directly in their pockets.
Sixt’s branch at Fulham and Chelsea will be home to a new, electric powered, addition to the Sixt Rent a Car fleet on March 4th. The introduction of the new Citroen C1 Ev’ie, provided in partnership with the Electric Car Corporation, will hopefully bring about a greener side to the car hire business.

The Citroen C1 Ev’ie is a modified version of the French manufacturer’s popular compact car. Available with either 3 or 5 doors, the C1 can fit 4 passengers inside setting it apart from the current crop of electric vehicles in the UK. The 30 kW electric motor that powers the car up to speeds of 60 mph and comes with an impressive range of up to 75 miles in between charges, giving it excellent performance for driving around the city. By using the C1 as the base for the electric conversion the car has already been through the European crash safety tests required of motor vehicles.
To help with the efficiency of the car an additional charge can be stored by using a system similar to the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) used on some Formula 1 cars to transfer energy back to the batteries when braking. Using such a system helps push the car’s range beyond the 60 miles that it is normally capable of by an extra 15 miles.

A C1 Ev'ie takes advantage of one of the many recharge points in London
Electric cars in the capital have distinct advantages over other vehicles thanks to several schemes and exemptions put in place by Transport for London and the Government. With no road tax to pay, no congestion charge, free parking locations in London and the cost to fully recharge the car being as little as 95p electric cars are appearing throughout the centre of the city.
Recharge points are being installed throughout the boroughs of London including Camden, Hammersmith & Fulham, Hounslow, Islington, Wandsworth and Westminster enabling drivers of electric vehicles a place to park cheaply and top up their cars with charge.
