Stars shine at London Christmas light switch on
Jim Carrey, Bob Hoskins and Colin Firth were among the stars on show as the switch for London’s Christmas lights were switched on.
People strolling down Oxford Street will now be sure to get into the Christmas spirit after its festive lights were turned on.
Hollywood star Jim Carrey did the honours, bathing the area with beautiful twinkling illuminations.
Carrey was in the capital to promote his latest movie, A Christmas Carol, in which he plays the role of Scrooge.
He said: “It feels great to be a part of all this tradition. I want to thank the people of Britain for the legacy of Charles Dickens and the chance to tell this story. This story couldn’t be more important now – it’s about the immorality of greed.”
It was a similar story throughout the capital, with lights at St Paul’s Cathedral and Regent Street also being turned on.
Stars including Bob Hoskins and Colin Firth were also in attendance, along with around 50,000 spectators, as the lights were switched on.
