For many Brits facing a speeding fine the standard amount we’ll have to pay is £60. However, driver’s who disobey the speed limits on Swiss roads should be very wary following a fine handed to a Swedish driver this week.

The fine of 1.08 million Swiss francs (£656,000) could be handed to the driver who was caught driving his Mercedes SLS AMG at 180mph along a Swiss road. The car has now been impounded and the driver could, in principle, be charged a daily rate of SFr 3,600 for 300 days. In Switzerland the level of the fine is set by the wealth of the driver and the speed recorded.

The Mercedes SLS AMG is the latest supercar to be released by the German manufacturer to replace the McLaren Mercedes. The car is electronically limited to a top speed of 197mph and features gull-wing doors like those featured on the classic 300SL. Although the SLS is not part of the Sixt fleet, there are other Mercedes cars available to be booked at some of our locations
