Commuters on the Tube are being advised to seek alternative routes and ways to get home tonight as the first of a series of 24 hour strikes on London’s Underground network begins tonight at 1700 BST. Staff are protesting about the planned scrapping of 800 jobs in the ticketing offices and are saying that the security of the stations could be at risk.

Members of the Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) and Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) are planning to hold the strike in 2 waves, with maintenance and engineering staff set to start the walkout at 1700 BST who will be followed by drivers, signallers and station staff at 2100 BST.

Transport for London (TfL) have warned passengers that disruption will start later this afternoon and will most likely continue until tomorrow when the strike is set to end. TfL have added an additional 100 buses and allowed space for an extra 10,000 places on riverboat services across the Thames.

Of course an alternative solution would be to simply hire a car for a 24 hour period to cover the journey to and from work and with Sixt Rent a Car having a strong presence in London we provide excellent quality vehicles at competitive rates. There are Sixt branches providing car hire at Victoria Station and Kings Cross Station and would be an ideal way to get home in comfort.
