Nottingham is the location of a much-anticipated new exhibition on the works of British great David Hockney.
A major new exhibition celebrating the work of British artist David Hockney has opened its doors in Nottingham.
One of the biggest art events to be held outside of London for years, the ‘Marriage of Styles’ exhibition at the Nottingham Contemporary focuses on his works from the 1960s, created while he was living both in the UK and in Los Angeles.
More than 60 Hockney paintings, including some of his most iconic works such as ‘A Bigger Splash’, are to be displayed at the acclaimed venue until the end of January.
Curator Alex Farquharson said that the event will give art-lovers the opportunity to see a great British painter ay the height of his powers.
“Hockney, in this period, was at the crest of a wave, not openly in the artistic avant-garde, but in culture in general,” he explained.
“It feels absolutely the right time to be revisiting this work now.”
In the summer, the director of Tate, Sir Nicholas Serota praised the Nottingham Contemporary, saying that it allows modern art to be viewed “in a new light”.
Hockney, now 72, currently lives and works in his native Yorkshire.
