Hadrian’s Wall… of light
Hadrians Wall
On the 13th of March 2010 Hadrian’s Wall will be lit up from end to end in an attempt to create a spectacle that has never been produced before.
In to order to make the event a success the search is now on for 500 volunteers to each take responsibility for a light along the 84 mile stretch. The lights will be displayed from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway on the Cumbrian coast with lights positioned at 250 metre intervals.
The event is being organised so that people of all abilities can take part Linda Tuttiett, of Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd, said: “We want to give people from all over the country, as well as local people, the chance to get involved. It really will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and something we think people will remember for a very long time.”
All volunteers will be given a special scroll to mark the occasion.
John Farquhar-Smith, who is responsible for producing the spectacle, added: “This event will be a massive logistical challenge involving a large team of experts and the highly experienced volunteers who work with Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd along the National Trail.”
