Check out the latest Sixt Mobile Apps at this weeks Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
You probably already know that Sixt is the forerunner in mobile technology within the car rental industry. To further develop this position, we will be participating in this years Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Together with BlackBerry we will introduce the Sixt App for Storm, Curve, Bold and Pearl. In the latest version 1.2.0 Sixt customers can enjoy a variety of new features including the ability to send reservation requests directly to the branch. The online check-in tool also allows users to select the exact model they rent prior to arriving at selected branches.
Also on show at the Mobile World Congress will be the latest version of the iPhone App “iSixt” which is already available from Apple’s Appstore. The App has been improved with a host of new and interesting features.

Well, it certainly seems to have been a very busy MWC this year, with big announcements from all the major players in the industry.
Firstly Adobe and Google announced that Flash apps and websites would finally be used on the Android operating system, hopefully allowing other smartphones (e.g BlackBerry, iPhone and Windows Mobiles) to offer customers a larger base of viewable websites and more online functionality.
Next, Microsoft showed of the latest version of their Windows for Mobile platform. The newly rebranded Windows Phone 7 has become a far more attractive proposition for technophiles wanting a phone with the functionality of windows but with an interface more like the iPhone. It is a big leap from their original platform, getting rid of the Windows style interface and making the whole system user friendly by allowing a simple tap on the screen to open up applications rather than clicking through the old menu system.
Apple’s iPhone certainly has a presence at the show, however it does seem like it’s previously lofty position is being threatened by the latest generation of phones. Even the much loved App Store is coming under criticism, due to it’s restrictive nature, with 24 of the larger networks and manufacturers (including Orange, Vodafone and AT & T) wanting to create and launch their own app distribution platform. The two dozen companies hope to open up providing apps across the full spectrum of mobile platforms.
Nokia and Intel announced that they would be merging their operating systems, Moblin and Maemo, into one open-source linux based platform called MeeGo, this ties in with Nokia also opening up their Symbian operating system to the public domain. This will bring the number of competing mobile phone operating systems up to 6 with several other manufacturers also having their own phone specific systems also being used.
All of this news is good as it seems to be heading to a more competitive open market, but as of yet the much predicted iPhone 4G has yet to be shown and even it’s spec has yet to be finalised. But after a recent report from specialist provider, Supercover Insurance showed that the number of insurance claims showed a marked increase within the same month as a new version of the iPhone is released, it shows that at least the phone is desirable, if not particularly affordable.
So, all in all, excitement and buzz are all around in the MWC, I can’t wait for further announcements over the next few days.
