Car hire users warned about uninsured motorists

A motoring expert has warned drivers about getting behind the wheel without a valid insurance policy, saying this could result in fines and points being put on their licence.
Users of car hire in London have been warned over the dangerous of insured drivers.
Will Thomas, head of motoring at Confused.com, stated that, according to figures from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, these individuals injure around 460 people each week.
He said: “The insurance industry had to pay out £400 million for the innocent victims last year, which translated into £30 on every honest driver’s insurance policy.”
Mr Thomas added that estimates suggest that there are around 243,000 uninsured drivers on the roads, users of London car hire may be concerned to hear.
He said that young people in particular must be more aware of the penalties for this, which include fines of up to £5,000 and as many as eight points being put on a person’s licence.
This warning comes shortly after the MIB launched its Stay Insured campaign, which aims to cut the number of motorists getting behind the wheel without cover.
