Parking In Cardiff

Anyone who lives in an inner city area will be very familiar with the trials and tribulations that can come with parking. Getting a space can be particularly challenging in areas with large numbers of multi-occupancy properties where one building can easily require space for four or five vehicles. Add to this, those who are trying to find cheap alternatives to expensive city centre car parks and local motorists can be presented with a real problem.

The way that councils typically try to alleviate problems and make sure homeowners can park in their own street is to issue parking permits to ensure spaces are fairly allocated and not dominated by visitors from outside the area. Cardiff council, however, is taking a unique approach to the distribution of permits and issued 18,000 last year despite not actually knowing how many residential parking spaces there are in the city.

Part of the problem seems to come from the fact that there are currently no controls on how many permits are allocated to a single property and residents can apply not only for permits for themselves but also for any guests that they may have visiting. Coupled with the fact that Cardiff is a popular student town where multi-occupancy is high means serious problems when it comes to being able to easily park near your home.
