Defoe driving ban upheld
Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe’s driving ban has been upheld and the appeal against it has been described by a crown court judge as “frivolous”.
England footballer Jermain Defoe will be unable to use London car hire after his driving ban appeal was rejected.
The Tottenham striker was disqualified for six months in July after twice breaking a 50mph speed limit on the M11 last year.
Defoe was found to have driven at 65mph and 81mph in the area on April 16th and June 5th 2008 respectively.
The star, who could start in England’s match against Brazil on Saturday, appealed against the banning order, however, this has been turned down and criticised by a crown court judge.
Judge Anthony Goldstaub slammed the decision to appeal, describing it as “frivolous”.
Not only was Defoe’s disqualification upheld, he was also ordered to pay an extra £1,500 in costs.
Last month, Defoe’s England teammate David Beckham was in trouble after he was spotted by the Daily Mail texting while behind the wheel of his Cadillac Escalade when driving home from training in California.
