Drivers breaking laws to race sat nav
Drivers are attempting to race their sat navs, leading to them breaking the law.
Many motorists are breaking the law in a bid to beat their sat nav’s estimated arrival time.
Research from Autoglass found 40 per cent of drivers are racing the system with ten per cent already getting a fine or penalty points for doing so.
Of the 3,000 motorists questioned more of the younger drivers admitted to racing their sat nav, with nearly a third of those under the age of 25 doing so, while only ten per cent of those over this age did so.
Ladies wanting their husband to slow down and keep within the limits should travel with them, as a quarter of men say they are more likely to try to beat the system if they are alone.
Nigel Doggett, managing director of Autoglass, said: “A sat nav takes into consideration the speed limits on our roads when calculating a driver’s estimated journey arrival time and should be used only as a helpful navigation device.”
People who use their sat nav to get them everywhere may be in trouble soon, after it was revealed that the systems could fail next year as the satellites which enable them to work have not been maintained rapidly enough.
Sat nav systems are available in many rental cars from Sixt however as always we would advise drivers to use them with caution and stick to the legal speed limits.
