Users of London car hire may want to take a more eco-friendly approach when on the roads after the results of a recent event showed the benefits of doing so.

The MPG Marathon involved vehicles attempting to get the most miles per gallon out of their motor.

A Smart Fortwo took first place, managing to clock up 96.81mpg, while three other cars also managed to average more than 80mpg.

Meanwhile, a Mazda 3 MPS delivered 41.75mpg, which is 43.48 per cent better than the manufacturer’s own fuel economy figures, suggesting that users of London car hire could get more for their money by being more eco-conscious while behind the wheel.

Earlier this year, consumers were given tips by the AA on how they can reduce the amount of fuel they use.

The firm’s Money Saving Motorist book included advice on how people can drive more economically, with measures such as reducing speed included in the guide.
