Users of London car hire have been warned about the danger presented by the clocks going back last weekend.

British Summer Time officially ended on Sunday (October 25th) and insurance group RIAS is urging motorists to safeguard themselves against accidents during the winter.

The firm claimed that 40 per cent of accidents happen at night, with almost eight million drivers putting themselves and others at risk by failing to take any precautions during the colder months.

To help motorists, the company has put together a list of tips that should be followed during the winter.

These include setting off a little early to avoid rushing, avoiding making trips in the dark when possible, keeping a mobile phone in the vehicle in case of an emergency and using high gears when there is snow or ice on the road.

Recently, Which? Car urged motorists to brush up on their driving skills with refresher courses.
