Swinton warns London car hire users about vehicle crime

An insurance firm has commented that vehicle crime may increase during the autumn, advising users of London car hire to take some simple steps to safeguard themselves against becoming victims.
Users of London car hire have been warned that the autumn is a popular time for thieves to operate.
According to Swinton, insurance claims in relation to vehicle crime tend to rise during September, October and November.
Steve Chelton, insurer development manager at the company, advised that extra precautions should be taken during these months, suggesting that this could avoid distress for London car hire users.
He said: “Being a victim of car crime can be very distressing and, by following simple precautions, it may deter thieves from identifying your car as their next target.”
According to the company, motorists should ensure that valuables are not on show when they leave their vehicle and it should be left locked in a well-lit area.
The firm carried out a study which showed that 28 per cent of the 1,000 participants said they were most worried about their cars during the autumn months.
Last week, Andrew Howard, head of public affairs for the AA, suggested that the government’s crack down on insured drivers could make the roads safer.
