Toro Rosso show the benefits of Winter Tyres
For many people who have struggled in the recent wintry conditions we’ve had in the UK the consideration of winter tyres has been foremost in their minds. Although not essential for this country the additional grip offered by studded winter tyres can help a car maintain control in very icy conditions, even if you are driving a V8 powered 750+ bhp Formula 1 car.
The Formula 1 team Toro Rosso welcomed the return of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to the world championships by getting Sebastien Buemi to test last year’s car with studded tyres on a lake near to the circuit in Montreal. As you can see, even with a vehicle notorious for generating wheelspin, the young driver showed off his winter driving skills and controls the car with aplomb, including recovering expertly from a spin on the ice.
Canada’s main racing circuit is surrounded by water and has always held some of the more intense driving battles with the circuit featuring long straights into tight hairpin bends and plenty of other opportunities for overtaking. It will certainly be making a grand comeback in the new year and should hopefully have implemented much needed repairs to parts of the track.
