The VW Polo: European Car of the Year 2010

As we rapidly approach the new year, journalists involved in the motoring industry all converge to vote on their car of the year. 59 members from 23 European countries all gathered their votes and opinions together and have decided that the winner this year is the VW Polo, beating it’s nearest rival by 10 points with a score of 347.

The Volkswagen Polo won plaudits for the room it provides for 4 passengers, the level of quality on the interior, comfort and performance. One of the major factors in the decision is how efficient the car is, offering 2 different versions of VW’s Blue Motion engines which can produce CO2 emissions as low as 87 g/km.

This is the first time in 17 years that a Volkswagen has won the overall prize, although the Polo has appeared in top 3 of previous awards, since the VW Golf was awarded the prize in 1992.

Volkswagens make up a large part of the Sixt UK fleet and we offer a wide range of their vehicles for hire from Polos and Golfs up to Passats and Tourans. The build quality provided by VW makes them an automatic choice for the fleet that we provide for our customers. If you want to give the new European Car of the Year a drive, or any of the other vehicles we have in our extensive fleet, then visit www.sixt.co.uk and hire the car you want.
