Warning over catalytic converter thefts
Businesses and drivers are being warned to act vigilantly following a spate of catalytic converters thefts across the country. Amongst those hit hard by the outbreak is Surrey based car and van hire company Kendall Cars who have been targeted at their locations in Guildford, Leatherhead and Ash.
Kendall Cars aren’t the only ones to have been affected, in May elderly residents in the area found themselves housebound after the catalytic converter was taken from their community minibus.
The stolen converters are being sold on illegally and Police are asking anyone who is hit by the crime to assist in their crackdown, PC Steve Cake said “Should anyone be unfortunate enough to suffer the theft of a catalytic converter, I would advise that when getting it replaced they should ask the garage to allow them to retain the cut area of the exhaust.”
Police are also recommending that drivers buy a catalytic converter identity marking kit, which cost just under £12 including postage from www.theisr.org.
