Young London car hire users distracted by gadgetsYoung drivers are more likely to be distracted by in-car gadgets than their older counterparts, according to a new study.

Research by the RAC found that those aged 17 to 24 years old were the worst when it came to this tendency, users of London car hire may be interested to hear.

It found that 55 per cent of participants in this age bracket had become seriously distracted by items such as CD players, sat navs and mobile phones.

CD and radio controls was voted as the most distracting in-car gadget, followed by sat navs, mobile phones, air conditioning systems and dashboard warning lights.

David Bizley, a director at the RAC, said that motorists such as users of London car hire should make sure that these devices are used appropriately, saying that failing to do so could have “disastrous consequences”.

A recent study by Autonational Rescue suggested that many young drivers rely entirely on sat navs to reach their destinations.
