Meet Sixt at the Mobile World Congress 2010

Check out the latest Sixt Mobile Apps at this weeks Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

You probably already know that Sixt is the forerunner in mobile technology within the car rental industry. To further develop this position, we will be participating in this years Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Together with BlackBerry we will introduce the Sixt App for Storm, Curve, Bold and Pearl. In the latest version 1.2.0 Sixt customers can enjoy a variety of new features including the ability to send reservation requests directly to the branch. The vicinity search has also been improved and can now function without a GPS net. The online check-in tool also allows users to select the exact model they rent prior to arriving at selected branches.

Also on show at the Mobile World Congress will be the latest version of the iPhone App “iSixt” which is already available from Apple’s Appstore. The App has been improved with a host of new and interesting features.

The Backend of the Android App has been extended and provides a faster more efficient booking service. Furthermore the mobile web page for customers that don’t use an iPhone, BlackBerry or Android has recently been revised offering a completely new booking engine.

The MWC 2010 stats today in Barcelona and runs through until the 18th of February. You will find us in hall 8 together with BlackBerry. Car hire users to shun satnavs in favour of mobiles?

There comes a time when all technology must stand aside and make way for its replacement and that time may have come for satnavs, as free mobile phone-based maps and directions are on the way.

A new innovation from Google could put an end to London car hire users relying on pay-for satnavs.

The IT giant has announced that it is to provide free navigational software for people with its Android handsets.

This will provide turn-by-turn directions and Street View images, ensuring that car hire users need never get lost again.

The technology will be available through Google’s Android 2.0 system and could spell trouble for the motorist’s current best friend – the traditional satnav.

This is because users have to pay for satnav devices and many companies also charge extra for services such as updated maps.

Since the announcement, shares in satnav firms such as Garmin and TomTom have fallen.

Whether they use a mobile phone or satnav, motorists may want to avoid relying on technology too much, after a man almost lost his job as an ambulance driver when he drove the wrong way up a one-way road on the advice of his satnav.

Car Hire And Culture In Kings Cross With Worlds First Mobile Poetry Competition

If you are collecting or returning a hire car in Kings Cross this week, consider popping into the station afterwards to release your poetic side with a Haiku.

Kings Place a cultural conference centre situated just next to the Kings Cross station, have joined forces with Network Rail to arrange the worlds first mobile poetry competion with entries being submitted via Twitter

Entries will be displayed live on the largest digital advertising board in the station and will be judged by Yoko Ono and poet, Jackie Kay with the top 3 winning entries being given free entry to a weekly poetry event for the rest of the year.
