holidays in london Car hire users turning to self catering for value A travel expert has suggested that holidaymakers, such as users of car hire in London, are not booking far in advance and may instead be turning to self-catering breaks.

Users of London car hire searching for a value for money break may be turning to self-catering holidays, an expert has suggested.

Richard Carrick, chief executive for Hoseasons, commented that these kinds of getaways are performing “incredibly well”.

He contrasted this with the hotel sector, saying that fewer people are booking into this kind of accommodation in the current climate.

Mr Carrick explained that in the current climate people are making “much shorter-term decisions” when it comes to holidays, with many shying away from booking ahead.

He added: “People are just managing their finances, not booking very far ahead and breaks away do give them the opportunity to escape the doom and gloom.”

In related tourism news, recent figures from the British Hospitality Association revealed that there was a 15 per cent fall in the number of trips made by UK residents in the first half of 2009 when compared with the same period of 2008.
