Top 5 tips for choosing a family ski holiday:
1. Choose a ski resort with a short airport transfer time
2. Opt for a resort with plenty of family friendly après-ski activities such as tobogganing, bowling, swimming or ice-skating
3. Choose accommodation which suits the family needs and budget. Opt for a self-catering apartment if you want to keep costs down by dining in or if you do choose to stay in a hotel look for a hotel with a family sized room and benefit from child discounts.
4. Choose a resort with a good range of affordable childcare options e.g. resort kindergartens, baby-sitting service via local tourist offices, hotel kindergartens
5. Opt for a resort offering free child ski packs.

Skiing in Austria is so easy from the UK. There are so many flights going to Munich from London (e.g. Easyjet from Stansted or Aer Lingus from Gatwick) and from the airport, it is just 2 hours and you can be in a very nice ski resort.
I flew into Munich and picked up my hire car from Sixt and drove to a fantastic ski resort called the Zillertal, just 2 hours from Munich.
The Sixt car was great and all the booked extras we provided (navigation system, snow tyres, child seat, and for the amount of luggage we had an estate car), just brilliant and the service was excellent. The rental agent informed us that we need a warning vest and that we have to buy a “Vingete” to enter Austria otherwise we will face a fine when leaving the motorway and local checks are carried out. They even told us at which petrol station on the motorway we can buy a “Vingete”.
This was a brilliant service because I was not aware of it and it saved a lot of money because when we left the motorway we were stopped by the local police to check if we have a “Vingete”, which we had thanks to the brilliant service from Sixt at Munich Airport.
The ski resort was brilliant and we had 5 ski resorts to choose from, what a choice I can tell and all with one ski pass. The local accommodation was simple but suited our needs. We had good access to local restaurants, so we did not have to use the car in the evenings.
Returning the car was simple again and back on the flight to London, with no hassle before the snow entered the UK again.
