Festive fun heading to London
It may seem early, but as we enter November it won’t be too long before Advent is upon us, Brits looking for the perfect winter getaway could enjoy all kinds of events by heading into the capital during November and December.
London car hire users may want to begin their break by embracing a piece of seasonal culture.
Between December 10th and 16th, the Linbury Studio Theatre will host The Enchanted Pig.
The musical fairytale has been brought back to life by members of the Royal Opera House and is sure to offer a fantastic start to a relaxing Christmas holiday in the capital. The show follows the story of Princess Flora and her husband, who is – as the title suggests – a magic pig.
After enjoying a night at the theatre, car hire in London users could then well and truly get into the festive spirit by taking part in a spot of singing.
Carols by Candlelight will see yuletide favourites sung at the Royal Albert Hall.
But this is not just any old sing-along as the Mozart Festival Orchestra will lead visitors through the songs. With such a stellar musical group providing the entertainment, holidaymakers may want to book their place soon.
Tickets for the event are on sale and range from £11.50 to £42.50.
Those keen to partake in a slightly more informal carol service may instead want to join the hoards at Trafalgar Square on evenings between December 7th and 20th, where songs will be sung under the beautiful Christmas lights.
Meanwhile, tourists looking for a completely different kind of music may want to book London car hire and drive to the O2 arena.
There, they will find all kinds of acts taking to the stage over the festive period.
On December 18th, ska legends Madness will put on what is sure to be a memorable show at the venue, before fellow stars the Pet Shop Boys head to the O2 on the 21st.
As Christmas approaches the festive events come thick and fast, with the venue hosting the Dualers Christmas Special, the Starz Xmas Party, Classic FM’s Spectacular and Talent at Christmas.
However, the top event to be held at the O2 in December must be the return of Sir Paul McCartney.
The ex-Beatle will put on his only UK live show of the year on December 22nd, providing the perfect pre-Christmas treat.
For those that prefer a day of shopping to a night of live music, a trip to Harrods at Christmas is a must.
Harrods really goes to town when it comes to the festive period and its renowned Grotto will be open from November 7th until Christmas Eve.
Visitors during this period will still be able to enjoy floor after floor of treats at the flagship Knightsbridge store, while the little ones can sit on Santa’s knee and hand over their Christmas lists.
For the perfect build up to the big day, visitors to London can head to Westminster Abbey on Christmas Eve.
There, they will find the annual Christmas Service, which begins in mid-afternoon and is led by the Dean of Westminster.
Visitors will be able to enjoy a heart-warming yuletide service and really get in the spirit of the occasion with numerous carols and readings.
Those looking to mark the day with something a little different could head out to Serpentine Lido, where the Peter Pan Christmas Race will take place.
Perhaps the perfect way to shake off the cobwebs ahead of what is sure to be a hectic day, this sees plucky contenders take to the water for a refreshing swim.
Once Christmas has been and gone there is no need to worry, as there will still be plenty to see and do.
Boxing Day is traditionally a huge date in the sporting calendar, and 2009 is no exception.
Football fans can head to Craven Cottage to see Fulham take on Tottenham or to Upton Park where West Ham will face Portsmouth.
