Snowman Festive tales to light up family breaks in LondonStuck for ideas of how to keep the kids happy on holiday? A city break in London could be just the answer.

The capital is packed full of superb family events and attractions over the coming months, with plenty that will keep those of all ages amused and entertained.

Mums and dads taking their little ones on festive breaks in the capital will find few events more well-suited to the occasion than a trip to the Nutcracker.

Held at the Royal Opera House, the show relives the fantastic Tchaikovsky ballet which tells the story of a toy soldier nutcracker as he transforms into a handsome prince and battles the Mouse King.

Tickets for the production are available priced between £6 and £97.

An equally well-loved family tale is the Snowman. Between December 2nd and January 10th parents can introduce their children to one of the most enjoyed festive stories of all time.

Held at the Peacock Theatre, the show features all of the charm of previous productions and, of course, it includes the Walking in the Air composition. Mums and dads can snap up tickets for the Snowman now, with these ranging from £12 to £30.

That is far from all London has to offer in terms of enchanting storytelling over the coming months. The city also hosts performances of Peter Pan at the O2 arena, The Tales of Beatrix Potter at the Royal Opera House and a Fortnum and Mason festive treat in the Christmas Storytelling show.

If all of these shows somehow fail to keep the kids amused, one surefire way to keep the youngsters happy these days seems to be to sit them down in front of Saturday night reality TV. However, the likes of X Factor, Dancing on Ice and Strictly Come Dancing are set to move out of the TV studio and tour the UK next year, giving families the perfect chance to see their heroes in action.

Simon Cowell will bring the X Factor Live tour to London in February and March, with visitors able to see their favourite performers and judges at the event. The stars of the show will perform at Wembley Arena on February 21st, before returning to the capital on March 20th with a date at the O2 arena.

Mums and dads may want to get used to the drive to the O2 arena, as all kinds of megastars will be performing at the venue in the next few months, providing numerous events that the little ones will be sure to love.

Children chomping at the bit to catch a glimpse of their favourite pop star can choose from shows by Pink, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Peter Andre over the next few months.

Youngsters keen to catch their sporting heroes will want to head to the O2 later this month when the ATP World Tour Finals takes place. Held between November 22nd and 29th, this competition will see the best eight tennis pros battle it out in what is the last major tournament of the year.

Sporting little ones could also be packed off to the David Beckham Soccer Academy, which runs training programmes throughout the year. Three and five-day schemes are available, with a three-day camp taking place in London between December 28th and 30th.

Mums and dads parting with £190 will see their son or daughter come home with a host of Beckham-related goodies, all kinds of new football skills and perhaps an extra friend or two met along the way.

Seeing the children off to a full day of training also gives parents the chance to enjoy a little time to themselves, which could be spent perusing the capital’s many sights, such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye.
