Chesterfield Tourist Office has praised the Casa Hotel development on Whittington Moor, saying it will, “re-invigorate interest in the historic market town, attract new visitors and benefit the local economy.”

The Council’s support for the £20M hotel and office scheme came as Miller Construction officially began building work at the site, which looks set to be the only large 4-star venue in Chesterfield once completed.

Bernadette Wainwright, Town Centre and Cultural Manager for Chesterfield Tourist Office, which is part of Chesterfield Borough Council, said:

“The opening of the town’s first 4-star hotel is very exciting for Chesterfield. It will attract additional overnight visitors who can enjoy not just the historic market town of Chesterfield and the Crooked Spire, but the surrounding attractions of Chatsworth, Hardwick Hall and Bolsover Castle.
“With this and other developments in the pipeline, tourism is sure to increase which in turn will benefit the local economy.”

Plans unveiled by site owners, Bradbury Hall Developments, show Casa will live up to its 4-star rating with modern bedrooms, landscaped grounds dotted with hand-crafted sculptures and banqueting facilities ideal for conferences and wedding parties alike.

Sebastian Perez, Managing Director of Bradbury Hall Developments, plans to travel to Barcelona for inspiration on interior decoration and restaurant menus. He said:

“Guests will be welcomed into an incredible lobby with high ceilings, tiled floors and a Spanish marble reception desk.  A subtle Spanish theme will run throughout and food served in the restaurants and bars will be locally sourced.

“Every part of the scheme has been designed with comfort and luxury in mind. The rooms will have ‘Hypnos’ beds, which are used in The Dorchester, and suites will have a selection of four-poster beds and balcony hot tubs. It could be as early as October 2009 that we begin to see Casa take shape.”

Local entrepreneur and Chairman of Bradbury Hall Developments, Steve Perez will relocate his drinks business, Global Brands to Casa’s state-of-the-art offices. Stuart Downham was appointed as General Manager during the early stages of planning and he commented:

“It is a unique opportunity for a hotel manager to be fully involved in the planning stages. Our combined expertise has resulted in a hotel design that will perfectly complement our target market.
“The support from the Chesterfield Tourist Office has been very encouraging and it is exciting to see the scheme move into the next stage.”

500 jobs will be created by the development of Casa, and the hotel and office scheme will complement the ongoing transformation of the A61 corridor at the Whittington Moor site, which will also be home to Chesterfield Football Club’s new 10,000 seat stadium and the relocating Tesco superstore.

Casa hotel is due to open in October 2010.
