North East England launches national media campaign
The 2010 North East England promotional campaign will launch on Monday (Jan 11th) with the continuation of the “When does a place become part of you?” TV campaign.
The TV advert showing spectacular aerial shots of the North East will once again be shown nationwide on satellite television. And the first opportunity for people to see it will be on ITV2 with a spot in the sizzling fourth series of Hell’s Kitchen USA at 9.30pm. Other highlights on the schedule include a spot in the eighth season of 24 on Sky One on January 17th.
Hollywood actor Sean Pertwee, best known for his roles in “Goal” and “Event Horizon” is the voice over of the advert.
The advert is part of a major national media campaign being led by Regional Development Agency One North East and take place throughout January, March and May.
Research from VisitEngland suggests that almost three quarters of people say they are “likely to take a break” in England this year and 95% of those who took a break in England last year are likely to return this year. The region’s campaign aims to take advantage of this and encourage more visitors to the region this year.
Last summer was the best on record for self-catering properties with occupancy up by 10% across the region. And many of the region’s attractions also recorded an increase in numbers between July and September.
In order to continue this trend the integrated campaign, which includes radio advertising, national press and digital activity, will target potential visitors in areas within a 3-hour travel time of the region, concentrating on North West and East and West Midlands as well as visitors in the South East and nationwide with satellite television.
For the second year in a row this will include advertorials on Smooth Radio and for the first time this year air-time advertising also on Smooth Radio. Last year’s Radio campaign reached over 300,000 people.
Promotional inserts will also appear in titles such as the Sunday Times; Daily Telegraph; Mail on Sunday; Country Walking and Your M&S, which have a combined circulation of 2.5m people. And there will be online advertising at yahoo.co.uk; Teletext and walking website livefortheoutdoors.co.uk
Anyone seeing the adverts will be directed to www.visitnortheastengland.com to research the area further or even make a booking.
Tania Robinson, head of marketing at One North East said: “Tourism is a major part of the region’s economy worth nearly £4bn and employing more than 60,000 people.
“And in order to continue to grow in the region’s tourism industry and encourage more visitors we need to ensure we are getting the message out that North East England is a fantastic destination to visit, whether on a short or long break.
“The inspirational TV advert, radio and newspaper advertising is part of One North East’s continued investment in tourism and are essential in building success for the region’s tourism product.”
