Significant parts of the UK rail network are set to be closed over the coming bank holiday weekend which could throw the plans of people relying on trains for weekend getaways into disarray.

Hundreds of miles of track will be closed affecting the route between London Glasgow, with travel to major destinations including Birmingham, Milton Keynes and Liverpool. Whilst passengers will be ferried between certain stations by bus services, it is not an ideal scenario particularly for those travelling with small children or large amounts of luggage.

Network rail plans for such work to take place at times of the year least likely to affect their core target market which is typically the business traveller.

For anyone wanting to check to see whether their journey will be disrupted, National Rail have a service on their web site providing details of upcoming work and what routes are affected and what train cancellations might occur.

If you are affected by this work and looking for an alternative means of travel you can always check out our car hire services over on Sixt.co.uk
